Artisan Statement

Astounded and amazed by the abundance of possibilities. Everything has been done. As a maker I strive to push the boundaries of Old and New. I am drawn to the Age Old Form and Function, Nature vs. Art. Someplace in the middle I live, making everyday with my hands the Antiques of Tomorrow.

I have been a maker my entire life. My father told me he would buy me a pocket knife if I ate with my silverware for a week. After I earned my first pocketknife I carved a little Indian in a Canoe. I haven’t stopped carving since.

My high school experience was nothing but the Fine Arts and Visual and Performing Arts program followed by 4 years of college at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville/Cookeville Tennessee with a short 6 month stint in Switzerland in the high mountains above Zurich with Master Traditional Woodcarvers.

Then I came home to Frederick to bestow my works upon the world. I sold work at the Meredith in Baltimore and Zenith in DC and through numerous high end decoraters. For the last 18 years I have been creating works in the Catoctin Mountain range on my hundred acre farm. Hawkwood farm, where life is an education through and through every day creating the antiques of tomorrow.
